Byron G. Auguste is a senior partner at McKinsey & Company’s Washington, D.C. office, where he works primarily in the fields of high technology, information- and services-based businesses, education, and economic development. Mr. Auguste served for six years as director of McKinsey's Social Sector Office, which works with institutions in the private, public, and non-profit sectors worldwide on projects to improve education and health outcomes, economic growth and opportunity, and institutional capacity for social innovation. Previously, he founded and led McKinsey's High Tech Services Sector and served on the global committees that elect and evaluate new partners. Mr. Auguste earned his Bachelor of Arts degree summa cum laude at Yale in 1989, majoring in economics and political science. He went on to earn M.Phil. and D.Phil. degrees in economics from Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar. He joined McKinsey & Company in Los Angeles in 1993. An active writer and speaker on globalization, technology, education, and economic strategies, he is the author of The Economics of International Payments Unions and Clearing Houses (1997). Mr. Auguste is co-founder and board chairman of the Hope Street Group, a nationwide, nonpartisan, volunteer organization of professionals, executives, and entrepreneurs developing and promoting public policies to expand economic opportunity. He is a trustee of the Hewlett Foundation, has served on advisory boards of the World Economic Forum and Center for American Progress, and was appointed by President Obama in 2010 to the White House Council for Community Solutions. Mr. Auguste was named Successor Trustee in 2011 and is a former member of the Yale University Council.
