Administration

Yale's academic departments, professional schools and research units have business support centers that coordinate operations, budget and staff. Administrators, managers and supervisors can be found in all areas of the campus, at all levels. Entry-level openings often represent promotional opportunities for current administrative support employees.

Finance

Fiscal administration is managed through a number of centralized University offices, including financial and budget planning, investments, accounting, auditing, sponsored research administration. The professional schools and many clinical departments also maintain extensive financial operations. A broad range of opportunities exist for accountants, auditors, cost analysts and financial analysts. Requirements begin with a degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and a year of related experience in a computerized accounting environment.

Computer & Information Systems

Computer technology at Yale covers a wide range of hardware and software applications, from simple office automation to the most sophisticated research. These positions typically require a college degree, knowledge of several advanced computer languages and experience with relevant hardware and software. In departments where emphasis is on user support, a background in science, research or health services may be required.

Library

The University Library System, with over eleven million volumes, is the second largest university research library in the country and the seventh largest research library in the world. The system employs a staff of more than 600 in a network of 25 school and departmental libraries. All librarian positions require a graduate degree in library science in addition to specialized experience. An undergraduate degree and three years of experience are required for team leader positions.

Development

Professional opportunities exist in the University's central development office, the development offices of the School of Medicine and in several of the other professional schools. Positions exist in development, alumni affairs, annual giving and corporate and foundation relations. Required fundraising experience ranges from two to eight years.

Facilities

The Yale campus covers more than 800 acres within the city of NewHaven and includes more than 225 buildings. Maintenance, renovation and expansion of these facilities are the responsibility of a large segment of the work force – designers, planners, engineers and architects.

Requirements range from college and/or technical training to an advanced degree and professional certification. In the trades and operations areas, supervisory positions require some college background as well as the relevant technical skills and job experience, including supervision.

Clinical

The University has a close affiliation with Yale-New Haven Hospital and other clinical and medical research facilities. It also operates the University Health Services for approximately 27,000 members, students, faculty and staff. Within these areas of the University are various professional positions including: nurses, social workers, physician assistants, therapists, counselors and psychologists, pharmacists, optometrists and researchers. In addition to college degrees, these positions often require appropriate certification or licensure.

Human Resources

The department of human resources develops policies and programs for the University's 12,000 employees, including staffing and career development, benefits, compensation, contract administration, staff training and counseling. Candidates for human resources representative positions should have at least a college degree and two years of human resources experience.

Research & Research Support

The stature and resources of the University attract funding from many government and institutional sources to support major research in medicine and basic science. Our research associate positions require an advanced degree in a related field or equivalent in experience. The minimum educational requirement for our research support specialistsis a Bachelor’s degree.

Student Services embraces a number of important functions: admissions, registration, placement, financial aid, career counseling and religious counseling in the college, graduate school and professional schools. Minimum requirements depend on the grade of the position, from a Bachelor’sdegree and two years of experience for an assistant registrar or student services officer I, to a relevant degree and six years of experience for a student services officer V.

The University is a community of almost 20,000 people who requirea full range of day-to-day services: purchasing, mail, phone networks, housing, transportation, parking and security. Managerial positions generally require significant experience in the particular service environment as well as a college degree and supervisory skills.

The Yale Art Gallery, the Yale Center for British Art and the Peabody Museum of Natural History offer job opportunities for those trained in preparing and constructing exhibits, developing and maintaining collections or serving the needs of visitors. Positions include collection managers, conservators, preparators and curators, all requiring specialized degrees and experience.

Yale Dining is a hospitality organization responsible for delivering over 14,000 meals per day in 31 food service operations to include; residential college dining, graduate student dining, retail, convenience stores, cafés, a catering and executive services, a commissary and a bakery. Yale Dining’s innovative concepts are known for commitment to local food and sustainability. The qualifications will reflect education and experience in the culinary and hospitality industry, broad experience in managing food services for clientele, catering, planning and well developed supervisory skills in a 24/7 environment.

Business Operations is comprised of the Business Operations Leadership Team and members the departmental business offices. They support the ongoing need to ensure that Yale’s business practices are align and are streamlined for efficiency, concentrating on delivering high quality financial and administrative support to departments. Qualifications of these professionals and managers will often include advanced degrees in management, information systems, finance and accounting. Skills in analysis, reporting and asset management and superior communications are critical.
