An Initiative From:

Cabot School District

The Schools of the 21st Century model is embedded in the culture of the Cabot School District. Extended learning opportunities have been implemented at seven elementary schools and one middle school site.

These sites serve over 500 students in academically-focused after-school programs. Two of these sites offer before-school programs. Programs, offered four days per week, are designed to blend knowledge and fun.

Programming includes homework assistance; literacy, math, and writing instruction based on state and district standards and benchmarks; accelerated learning for targeted at-risk students; enrichment activities that include fine arts, music, drama, dance, foreign language, and technology; and cooking.

A six-week program is also offered in the summer, which is designed with academics in the morning and recreational activities in the afternoon.

Early childhood transitional activities are being conducted through a collaborative effort between the area day care providers and Cabot Public Schools. Each month four-year old students in local day cares are participating in kindergarten programs followed by lunch. Other transitional activities include playgroups twice weekly at Ward Central and Westside Elementary.
