An Initiative From:

Fort Smith School District

TThrough a collaborative effort, the Fort Smith Public Schools, area businesses, families, and the community will ensure that all Fort Smith children are better prepared emotionally, socially, and academically for a successful kindergarten experience.

The Fort Smith Public School District's 21C Program provides outreach to the parents of infants, toddlers, and preschool children who are not already being served by the Parents As Teachers program.

As of January, 2004, there are approximately 200 children who are receiving FSPS 21C services. Each month, age- appropriate developmental materials are sent to the families' homes to give parents information that will assist them in their role as their child's first and most important teacher.

The Fort Smith 21C Program also offers free Right From Birth ã parenting classes to local business, religious organizations, day care centers, and other groups. The Right From Birth ã parenting program is comprised of 12 sessions - each relating to a child's social, emotional, and physical development.
