ORDER OF SIMULATION
The simulation will consist of a combination of Country/Interest meetings and Committee meetings. All meetings will be moderated by Yale Accords staff members.
First Country Meeting:
Delegates will meet with others who represent the same interests/country. At this first country meeting, they will review the rules for the conference, get to know each other, discuss preliminary strategy and priorities for the negotiations, and most importantly discuss their interest's platform on each issue. At the discretion of the delegates, country meetings can be broken down into the specific factions represented, or the interest/country can meet as a whole. Most likely some of both will be useful.
First Committee Meeting:
At the first committee meeting, delegates will begin deliberations with those representing other interests. The first meeting will provide the opportunity for delegates to identify the most important issues for other interests on their committee, and to explore various bargaining positions.
Second Country Meeting:
At the second country meeting, delegates will report back from their committees on what their bargaining counterparts have told them. Countries will begin to decide on which issues they might be more willing to compromise.
Second Committee Meeting:
At the second committee meeting, delegates should begin to negotiate and compromise on issues, arriving at potential agreements which they can bring back to their countries.
Third Country Meeting:
Delegates will again report on the status of negotiations in their committees, mentioning possible alternative solutions. Countries will decide their final platforms entering the last round of committee meetings.
Final Committee Meetings:
Based on the instructions they have been given in their country meeting, delegates will attempt to negotiate final compromises in their committees.
Final Country Meetings:
Each country will debate approval of the final agreements from each committee.
Closing Ceremony:
If each country agrees to the various committee agreements, the delegates will have authored The Yale Accords, which will be presented at the closing ceremony. Hanan Ashrawi will discuss the Yale Accords resolution at the closing ceremony.
* Note on simulation proceedings:
There is, of course, much overlap in the issues being debated by the various committees. Thus, it may be useful for committees to meet together in a joint session of two or even three committees. This can be done at the discretion of the committee members during Committee meeting times. Additionally, countries may find it useful to meet with other countries at their discretion during Country meeting times.
