Dear Friend,
Welcome to Yale!
ACSSY
(Association of Chinese Students and Scholars at Yale) is a
volunteer-run, non-profitable, non-political organization, aiming
to serve the Chinese community at Yale in public entertainment,
culture development and information exchange. In order to
celebrate Chinese traditional festivals, such as the Middle Fall
Festival and the Spring Festival, we organize great parties in
which professional singing, dancing and other performances are
shown. To help new comers settle down easily and quickly, we are
trying to give a hand in pick-up and housing, and organize an
orientation in early September. The email and homepage of ACSSY

are being well maintained and updated regularly. You can post
your requests and offers through email, which can provide timely
information for moving sale, housing, traveling, baby-sitting,
etc. A BBS is now under construction to keep the information in
classified databases. You can log in our BBS through our
homepage:
http://www.yale.edu/ACSSY. There are more than 600 people
registrated in our email list.
There are about 30 faculty members, 200 students (including
undergraduate students, graduate students and professional
students), 400 postdocs and research scientists in our Chinese
community at Yale. Adding the family members together, the total
number amounts to 1,000. There is no surprise that we are the
largest international community at the Yale-New Haven area.
Here come to our personal experience and lessons in living and
studying at Yale. Surely, as a student, we should focus on
studying and working. Study and research are the two most
important things, but it does not mean we should restrict our
lives completely in them. We may want to build up ourselves in
many other aspects. Yale is known not only for her education and
research, but also for architecture, music, arts, management and
law, which enable us to develop ourselves in a comprehensive and
balanced environment.
A brochure, which covers most concerns of new comers, like
housing, dining, safety, etc., is enclosed for your reference. It
is mostly based on our personal experiences. The main purpose is
to provide you with some background information. If you have any
question or are not clear about any part of this brochure, please
use the email acssy@yale.edu to ask us for further reference.
In closing, we wish you a happy stay in China and a successful
and enjoyable career at Yale.
Best regards.
Yours Sincerely,
ACSSY Board 99-00
