Leased Space Working Group  
  • Scope: $11M spend on over 750,000 square feet of leased space
  • Goal: Achieve short- and long-term cost savings
  • Approach:
    • Ensure that a comprehensive, current inventory of all University leases and lease-related costs is maintained
    • Centralize the oversight of leased space and lease-related processes
    • Determine the most cost-effective means for addressing the University’s leased space needs
    • Identify ways to reduce the cost of leased space
    • Recommend changes in processes to allow for better management of leased space.

Promising Opportunities

  • Enhanced negotiation capability due to centralized lease management
  • Use of existing/vacant Yale leased space vs. leasing additional space
  • Consolidation of leased space
  • Relocation of programs from leased space into available Yale-owned space
  • Acquisition /renovation of properties vs. continuing to lease
  • Standardization of space configurations, furnishings and finishes
