OCIP Frequently Asked Questions

Topics:

Getting Started

What is eRecruiting?

UCS is using a web-based interview management system called eRecruiting for posting opportunities to our students. Experience has been a pioneer and innovator in the college recruiting area since 1996. eRecruiting allows students 24 hour-a-day on-line access to job descriptions and recruiting information. Through eRecruiting, students will be able to view upcoming company interview and presentation information, submit resumes, and sign up for interview time slots online. Read the eRecruiting User Guide to learn more about this resource.

How do I participate?

Currently enrolled undergraduate students and alumni less than one year out of school may register to participate in On-campus Interview Program.

  1. Complete the on-line OCIP tutorial and assessment.
  2. Complete the electronic registration form at the end of the assessment.

Note: If you attended a Registration Meeting for on-campus recruiting you will automatically be eligible to participate in the recruiting program. However, you will need to activate your eRecruiting account and complete your profile if you have not done so before you are able to participate.

How long after registering can I apply to jobs in eRecruiting?

Registrations completed during the week, Monday through Friday, will require between 24-48 hours to process. Registrations submitted between Friday and Sunday will require 48-72 hours for processing.

What's important to know about completing the online registration/user profile?

Your profile enables the eRecruiting system to determine whether or not you meet an employer's requirements pertaining to degree, major, graduation date, minimum GPA, and work authorization. Don't forget to update your profile frequently! UCS uses this information to contact you and email appropriate updates and information to you and employers DO have access to this information.

Creating Your On-Line Resume and Other Submission Materials

How do I create and upload my resume?

Create your resume in MS Word or other word processing program and upload it to the system. Simply click on the "Documents" link in the upper left corner of the eRecruiting navigation bar and follow the steps for uploading (adding) your resume. You may save multiple versions of your resume in the system.

How do I create and upload a cover letter?

Create your cover letter in MS Word or other word processing program and upload it by following the instructions under "Documents."

How do I create and upload a self-reported grade sheet or writing sample?

Self-reported grade sheet guidelines are available on this site. To upload a self-reported grade sheet login to eRecruiting to access your profile.

Since many employers will request an official transcript prior to a job offer, you will want to ensure accurate and correct entry of each class and grade. Falsification of your grade sheet will result in disciplinary action (see Undergraduate Regulations: XV,A).

For writing sample submission, create your document in MS Word or other word processing program and upload it by following the instructions in eRecruiting under "Documents."

Trying To Get The Interview

How can I see who's coming to interview on campus?

eRecruiting allows you to search two areas: jobs and internships. Search options include (but are not limited to):

  • Keywords
  • Job Function
  • Industry
  • Major
  • Geographic location
  • OCIP/non-OCIP opportunities
  • Application Deadline

How can I find out about employer information meetings?

You can search for employer presentations by date and event type under "Events" on the eRecruiting navigation bar.

How do I know the deadline for submitting my resume to a specific company?

An interview search on the system will result in a list of employers, which will include their application deadline dates (under the "Application Deadline" column). If the resume submission deadline is October 1st, you have until 11:59:59 PM that evening to submit your resume, but do not wait until the last possible moment to apply!

How do I submit my resume for a specific job?

Click on the job title to view the details of the job. Locate the "How to Apply" section at the bottom of the page and click "Apply." Select a Resume, Cover Letter, and/or Other Document (such as a self-reported grade sheet) that meets the requirements. Click "Submit." After you've submitted, you will be able to track your application from the "Application" link on the eRecruiting navigation bar.

How will my resume look when it is sent to the employer?

The resume that the employer will receive will look like your original document. Content is key, and employers realize electronically submitted resumes are not always reflective of a hard-copy resume. Once a document is uploaded, you can view the saved version by clicking on that document's title.

Why can't I sign up or submit my resume for a particular job?

Here are the three scenarios that may have occurred:

  1. You have not attended an OCIP registration meeting and are therefore not eligible to participate in the On-campus Interview Program.
  2. You may not meet the eligibility requirements for that job. Scroll to the bottom of the recruiting description page to check this. NOTE: The information you selected in your profile when you registered is used to determine whether or not you will meet eligibility requirements. It is extremely important that you keep your profile information up to date and are thorough when selecting job interests and majors.
  3. You may have missed the preselect or open sign-up dates (please contact UCS for assistance).

How do I update my resume after I've submitted it?

You can view your OCIP applications under "Applications" on the eRecruiting navigation bar. If the submission deadline has not passed, you may remove your resume and replace it with another version that you've saved with a different name. Please note that you will not know if the employer has viewed your resume before the application deadline. It is always best to review all documents thoroughly before submitting them to employers for consideration.

Signing Up For the Interview

How can I tell if I've been preselected?

We encourage employers to notify pre-selected students by email, however they may elect to telephone you. The best way to be aware of interviews you have been pre-selected for is to use "Applications" on the eRecruiting navigation bar. You will see the status of your application under each position for which you have submitted applications.

How do I sign up for an interview I've been preselected for?

You can do this two ways.

  1. You will receive an email notifying you of your selection. A link to login to eRecruiting will be included and once you do so, you will be taken directly to the sign-up page where you can select your interview time.
  2. Click on the "Applications" tab on the naigation bar. The status of your active applications is displayed in the Employer Decision column. Click on "Details/Sign Up." On the Application Details page, under Employer Decision, click on "Sign up for Interview." On the Interview Sign Up page, find the schedule date you would like to sign up for and select the Time radio button associated with the time slot you desire and click Save. If you have been preselected, you MUST sign up before the alternate sign up period starts. Otherwise, an alternate may take the last free time on the interview schedule.

How can I change my interview time once I've signed up?

If you need to change your interview time, you may do so before the interview sign-up deadline. Follow the same procedures listed above for selecting your original interview time. If the sign up deadline has passed, you must contact the organization or UCS directly to change your time. If the sign-up deadline has passed, you must contact the organization or UCS directly to change your time.

What if I've been chosen as an alternate?

Note when the alternate sign-up period begins and try to sign up as soon as it starts. Your status will change from "alternate" to "preselect," enabling you to sign up for an interview time.

Can I sign up for open interviews?

Open interviews are a rare occurrence. You can check for them by searching interviews by open sign-up deadline. Open interview sign-ups begin approximately 2 weeks prior to the interview date.

The Interview

What should I know before the interview?

  • Know what position you are interviewing for: review the job description.
  • Know what the company does: check out the company's webpage, review any company literature in the career office, and go to the company information meeting.
  • Understand the responsibilities of the position, and how you can succeed at them.
  • Understand the qualifications for the position, and how you meet them.
  • Understand what the company does, and why you want to work there.
  • Understand and know the industry; know about recent events in the industry and ask how they have affected the specific organization you are interviewing with.
  • Demonstrate your research skills, focus, and enthusiasm!
  • Be on time, which means 15 minutes early.
  • Have at least two extra copies of your resume with you. Double-check the job description to make sure there isn't anything else required at the interview.
  • Take on-campus interviewing seriously: NEVER interview for a job that you are not interested in. NEVER use on-campus interviewing for practice. NEVER fail to show up for an interview.

What is business casual and if the employer states the interview is business casual can I still wear a suit?

Each organization has it's own definition of business casual, therefore it is appropriate to ask. By attending the employer information meeting you will get a sense of the company's business casual style. It is perfectly acceptable to still wear a suit to the interview. Recruiters are more concerned with assessing your skills, not your attire. For more information about business casual click here.
