BRIEF HISTORY:

The origin of CUSY dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, when many motivated youth from Imperial China made the nation's first educational expedition to the West. Many of those young students came to Yale as a result of their brightness and diligence. During their years at Yale College, they not only accomplished their academic goals with distinction, but also add to the cultural diversity on campus. After Yale, most of them went back to China and became the pioneers of China's modernization. Those early CUSYers often found themselves serving the nation as heads of state, legislators, national chancellors, naval commanders, diplomats, industrial leaders, founders of leading financial institutions, prominent educators, etc.

Time has gone by, and CUSY's tradition of maintaining excellent academic and socail records carries on. Recent alumni/ae of CUSY are seen in China and other parts of the world, contributing to varied social sectors and playing their roles as citizens of China, as well as those of the world.

MEMBERSHIP:

CUSY offers Core Membership and General Membership. All Yale College students from Mainland China are automatically granted Core Membership, which allows them to access CUSY's forums and databases containing privileged information and resources. Students from Hong Kong S.A.R. of China and Taiwan region will be issued the Core Membership upon verbal request to three CUSY board members.

As a registered student organization at Yale, CUSY's general membership is open to all other Yale College students, according to relevant rules and regulations concerning student organizations at Yale College.

Each year in January, CUSY issues Core Membership to a limited number of general members based on their applications or involvement with CUSY affairs. Application may be waived and Core Membership will thus be granted if nominated by at least 15 current core members of CUSY.
