Yale Cycling has a long history, dating back to 1891. We loved bikes long before Lemond and Armstrong were making it popular in the U.S. Looking back, Yale knew how to do it euro.

Since 1891

For a time, the Yale-Vassar Bike Race was an annual mixer for the two colleges centered around a race from New Haven to Poughkeepsie. Life Magazine chronicled the events in 1952 in the best way they know how - with beautiful black and white photos. There's plenty of drinking, cycling, and odd costumes, which leaves only one question to be answered: Why did we ever stop doing this?

Below are some pictures from Life's piece. Click here to see more.

We also searched through the archives at the Yale library. Cycling history was tough to find, but not impossible. Below are some teams, riders, and events from our past.
