Instructions

You will only go out once a week, but the more times you could possibly go, the easier it is to schedule everyone in a time that works for them. By joining Demos, you are making a commitment to a classroom of 3rd - 5th graders. You are expected to teach the same class at the same time each week, with a group of 1-2 other Yale students.

After scheduling, you will be contacted by a "School Coordinator", a Demos board member who is familiar with the school at which you are volunteering. They will provide you with more information about transportation, how to get materials, and answer any questions you may have. There will be one short meeting with your school coordinator before your first day in a classroom. They'll also give you a Demos T-Shirt and binder.

Marking 1:00 but not 12:30 means that you can leave campus at 1:00. Similarly, marking "2:00-2:30" but not "2:30-3:00" means that you need to be back on campus by 2:30.

For scheduling purposes, please mark blocks of at least 1.5 hours in length.

 Classrooms: Our traditional program of sending pairs of volunteers into an assigned classroom once per week every semester.  
Assemblies: An additional Demos program is Assemblies. A group of volunteers go out to local schools and do shows in front of hundreds of excited students, usually on Friday afternoons. Please click here if you are interested in hearing more about this program.  
StarLab: Demos is the proud owner of a travelling, inflatable planetarium. In the StarLab program, a group of volunteers brings this planetarium to a different classroom in the New Haven area each week to give an awe-inspiring hour-long presentation about gravity, stars, and galaxies.
