We are always excited to see new dancers as excited about dancing as we are! Regardless of your dance background, we would love to see you try-out! ADD is open to all members of the Yale community, graduate and professional students included, so don't hesitate to come to our audition.Our audition will begin with a jazz/modern warm-up and then we'll move into a series of combinations. First we will have two ballet combinations consisting of fundamental across-the-floor and center exercises. Next, you will learn two short pieces in modern and jazz and perform these in small groups. In this portion of the audition we want to see your command of choreography, technical skills, and most importantly, your ability to perform and excite an audience! Have fun with the dances and do not worry if you have never done one or more of the dance styles before. We have multiple styles so that everyone can feel comfortable in a section! Finally, at the end of the audition we offer a chance for anyone to show us additional talents and skills: other dance styles like tap, hip-hop, or world dance, special turns or jumps, or snippets of choreography, etc. Also, we encourage you to share any choreography ideas you may have. We strive to foster creative compositions, and this is the best opportunity to show us your creative ideas and enthusiasm for choreography.
Wear comfortable dance clothes and footwear--bare feet, ballet, jazz shoes, etc. Remember to bring any shoes you may need to show your extra dance skills at the end of auditions. It is also very important to bring lots of water because the studios get hot!
