Maggi Dawn: a woman for all seasons
Maggi Dawn discovered guitar at age 5, painting at 6, her singing voice at 7, church at 11 and theology at 14. Ever since, she's been crafting a work of art out of a multifaceted vocation and career—a life of professional music, theology, liturgy, teaching, and writing. Allie Perry on death penalty repeal
The Rev. Allie Perry '80 M.Div. has served since 2008 on the board of the Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death Penalty, a prime mover in the successful effort to put an end to capital punishment in Connecticut. She has taught courses in therapy and nonviolence as an adjunct member of the faculty at Yale Divinity School and serves on the YDS Alumni Board. Mirolsav Volf on "civility"
Over the past several months, theologian Miroslav Volf, director of the Yale Center for Faith and Culture, has lectured at various conferences, churches, and colleges on living in a civil way despite deep differences. One of the lectures was a keynote address at the “Justice Conference” in Portland, OR, to some 4,000 people of all political persuasions. Summer Study registration deadline, May 15 A captivating array of teachers are offering courses during Summer Study 2012, including a professor who is also a singer/songwriter, has cut five albums of her own songs, and who organized and executed the well-known “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” on BBC Radio while at the University of Cambridge; and a recent Yale Divinity School graduate who taught a wildly popular course to Yale undergraduates on Christian themes in the Harry Potter books while a student at YDS and has since become a popular speaker and writer on the subject.>Read More

Dean Attridge on CBS's "Sunday Morning" show
Dean Harold Attridge appeared Easter morning on CBS's “Sunday Morning" show for a segment on the new Shroud of Turin book entitled The Sign, by Thomas de Wesselow.   Attridge said, "It could well be the burial cloth of Jesus—I wouldn't discount that possibility.  That's part of the case that he makes; the other part is trying to see how the discovery of this cloth might have functioned in generating belief about the resurrection, and that's much more, in my mind, conjectural.  >Go to the video

UPCOMING EVENTS

Commencement 2012, May 21
Yale Divinity School will hold commencement exercises on Sterling Divinity Quadrangle on Monday, May 21, at 12:30 pm., preceded by Commencement Communion at 8 am and Commencement Worship on Sunday, May 20 at  4pm.  The preacher for Worship is Carolyn Sharp, associate professor of Hebrew Scriptures, and the Communion preacher is Associate Professor of New Testament Jeremy Hultin, who will leave YDS at the end of the year to join the faculty at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia.  Celebrants at Communion will be Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Emilie Townes and Associate Dean of Student Affairs Dale Peterson.

Alumni gatherings
A Yale Divinity School alumni luncheon will be held during the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on July 4, noon-1:30 pm, at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh.   An alumni gathering will also be held during the June 27-July 4 General Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Nashville, exact time and location to be arranged.  Questions about registration should be directed to kira.wishart@yale.edu
