Disposal flow chart for certain unregulated chemical waste

Unregulated Laboratory Waste

Some biomedical wastes can not be treated by the EHS autoclave and therefore should not be disposed of in the carts. This waste includes certain unregulated chemical wastes.

Certain unregulated chemical wastes are disposed of with the biomedical waste. Ethidium bromide gels are an example of such a waste. Collect these wastes in a Yale provided bag-box unit and mark them "Unregulated Chemical Waste". Over pack these boxes in our vendor's box (Stericycle) and place a green sticker on the outside box to ensure our vendor will incinerate it. Seal and place these boxes adjacent to our waste collection carts, but not in them, or in your biomedical waste collection area. This waste stream will continue to be incinerated off-site by a contractor. Call 432-6545 to schedule a pickup of these boxes.
