Laboratory Waste Handling Procedures and Tools
The resources on this page have been developed to assist laboratory employees to properly handle and dispose of the hazardous and regulated wastes they generate.
You will find links in the right hand column to tools (including waste handing flow charts, forms, and lab posters), online training as well as policy and program guides.
To increase your knowledge regarding the proper handling and disposal of laboratory generated hazardous waste we suggest the following:
-
Review the "Laboratory Waste Handling - Essential Practices" video. This will provide you with an overview of how waste is handled on campus and the importance of proper waste handling,
collection and storage in the laboratory.
-
Download and review the waste handling flow chart for each waste stream that you handle (available in the charts section in the right hand column). The charts describe how to properly
segregate, package and store each type of waste in the laboratory.
-
Review the short descriptions of how to use each chart (available in the tools section in the right hand column). These five minute narrated training programs describe how to use the
waste charts effectively.
In the right hand column you will find additional links to the forms required to request waste pickups. Additional specific online training on various waste topics can also be found.
Please review the training materials applicable to your work. We have also linked our extensive policy and program manuals. These resources should address most questions but feel
free to contact your safety advisor or Environmental Affairs with any unanswered questions.
