USED ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT (UNIVERSAL WASTE)

EHS in partnership with WeRecycle Inc. recycles all used electronics meeting the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection definition of "Universal Waste".   This waste stream includes items such as computers and their peripherals, fax and copy machines, phones, cell phones etc.   Universal Waste - used electronics are defined as any item that contains a circuit board that can store or transmit data or is used for entertainment.   On average, EHS recycles approximately 200,000 lbs of used electronics each year.   WeRecycle is a certified sustainable recycler that does not allow any exportation of waste.   Each component of the equipment is dismantled and recycled. In addition, unwanted computers in good condition are rebuilt each month and donated to two local charity groups on behalf of Yale EHS.

All requests for Universal Waste pickup can be made through the web at: https://universalwaste.med.yale.edu/user.

If you have any questions concerning this new procedure, please call the Environmental Affairs waste request line at 432-6545 or please visit our universal waste training program at: http://www.yale.edu/ehs/onlinetraining/universalwaste/universalwaste.htm.
