DOT's Material of Trade (MOT) Exemption

This course is designed to provide guidance on transporting hazardous material under the Department of Transportation (DOT) "Material of Trade" (MOT) exemption.

Certain research materials transported by private motor carriers, for the purpose of direct support of their business, are exempt from most of the DOT's hazardous materials regulations.

For a hazardous material to be considered a MOT, it must meet specific quantity limits and hazard classifications. If you need assistance identifying the hazard class, division, or packing group, please contact the or by calling EHS at 785-3550.
