YEU (founded during the fall of 2007) is an undergraduate organization at Yale University aiming to create a community for European students at Yale and broaden the knowledge of Europe on campus. We organize a wide array of Europe-related political, cultural and social events for the Yale community in an effort to promote transatlantic relations.

Academic events organized by YEU include panel discussions, master’s teas, debates and lectures by visiting speakers. The topics and themes discussed include Europe’s current political, economical and cultural scene. Other events focus on European history, the interactions and commonalities between national identities in Europe, European integration, and the EU. YEU also organizes social events, including parties and study breaks with Europe-related themes, film screenings and student trips.

YEU not only welcomes students from Europe but any Yale student or member of faculty interested in European affairs. We hope you will join us in our quest to better understand Europe and our contemporary world.

About YEU

Yale European Undergraduates

Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area, covering about 10,180,000 square kilometres (3,930,000 sq mi) or 2% of the Earth's surface. Of Europe's 48 countries, Russia is the largest by both area and population, while the Vatican is the smallest. Europe is the third most populous continent after Asia and Africa with a population of 710,000,000 or about 11% of the world's population. However, Europe's borders, and population are in dispute, as the term continent can refer to a cultural and political distinction or a physiographic one. (Wikipedia)

About Europe

The European Union (EU) is a political and economic community of twenty-seven member states, located primarily in Europe. It was established in 1993 by the Treaty of Maastricht, adding new areas of policy to the existing European Community founded in 1957. With almost 500 million citizens, the EU generates an estimated 30% share of the world's nominal gross domestic product (US$16.6 trillion) in 2007.

The EU has developed a single market through a standardised system of laws which apply in all member states, guaranteeing the freedom of movement of people, goods, services and capital. It maintains a common trade policy, agricultural and fisheries policies, and a regional development policy. Fifteen member states have adopted a common currency, the euro. It has developed a role in foreign policy, representing its members in the World Trade Organization, at G8 summits and at the United Nations. Twenty-one EU countries are members of NATO. It has developed a role in justice and home affairs, including the abolition of passport control between many member states under the Schengen Agreement.
