Meet the members of the YEU Executive Board

Co-President

Name: Gemma Bloemen

Place of Origin: Utrecht, Netherlands

Gemma Bloemen is a sophomore in Pierson College majoring in Psychology and International Studies. She was born and raised in Utrecht, The Netherlands. At Yale, Gemma works for the Council on European Studies, serves as a World Fellows Liaison and is assistant publisher for the Yale Globalist and Business Director for the Gaze; a Journal of Photography. She passionately believes in a joined Europe and hopes to spend a lifetime advancing its cause.

Name: Octavio Medina

Place of Origin: Madrid, Spain

Octavio Medina is a sophomore in Trumbull College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and International Studies. His academic interests include nationalism and identity, politics in multilingual societies, languages and political economy. He is originally from Madrid, Spain, where he has lived his entire life. He strongly believes in European integration.

Political Chair

Name: Ola Malm

Place of Origin: Gjerstad, Norway

Ola grew up in rural Aust-Agder, Norway. He attended high school in western India, and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in economics and political science.

Financial Chair

Name: Kyle LeCroy

Place of Origin: Alabama, USA

Kyle A. Le Croy is a senior in Pierson College, where he is completing a B.A. in International Studies and History. He has served on the U.S. National Board of Directors for UNICEF and has interned with U.S. Department of State in France. He is a member of Yale's Senior Class Council, Senior Delegate to the Ivy Leadership Summit, Pierson College Co-Chair for the Yale Alumni Fund, and a member of the Leadership Institute at Yale. In 2008 he will return to Oxford to pursue studies in E.U. and Public International Law.

Associate Financial Chair

Name: Nikolaos Angelopoulos

Place of Origin: Athens, Greece

Nikos is a sophomore in Saybrook College and is pursuing a double major in Economics and Electrical Engineering. Originally from Athens, he is interested in cinema and film-making.

Cultural Chair

Name: Tanya Grigoroglou

Place of Origin: Thessaloniki, Greece

Tanya Grigoroglou, originally from Thessaloniki, Greece, is a sophomore in Calhoun College, double majoring in Art and Art History. Her favorite things include inks, paintbrushes, large sunglasses and hair pins.

Associate Cultural Chair

Name: Argyris Tsiaras

Place of Origin: Thessaloniki, Greece

Argyris is a freshman in Ezra Stiles College and comes from Thessaloniki, Greece. He is probably going to major in a combination of Economics, International Studies and Political Science. He is a fervent supporter of European unification as the sole way towards the prosperity of European countries. Go Europe!

Outreach Chair

Name: Tasos Gogakos

Place of Origin: Thessaloniki, Greece

Tasos Gogakos, originally from Thessaloniki, Greece, is a sophomore in Ezra Stiles College, majoring in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. HIs favorite things include food, scarves, drums and drumsticks

Social Chair

Name: Farhad Anklesaria

Place of Origin: Calcutta, India, and England, UK

Farhad is a sophomore in Saybrook College majoring in Sociology and Economics. He was born in England, but brought up for most of his life in Calcutta, India.

YEU is a new organization, and is something that is in the process of being shaped and molded, and he is happy to be a part of that process.

Associate Social Chair

Name: Ian Convey

Place of Origin: Maidstone, England, UK

Ian Convey is a freshman in Ezra Stiles College, from Maidstone in the United Kingdom. He intends to be a History and Psychology double-major, and has hopes for working for a pan-European NGO in the field of women's rights. He has spent periods living in France, Germany, Belgium and Spain, and can say that he has visited every single member-state of the EU. His favourite things about Europe include people speaking Spanish properly, football ('soccer'), Madrid, taxes and Lithuania.

Publicity Chair

Name: Caroline Mezger

Place of Origin: Zurich, Switzerland

Caroline Mezger, the YEU Publicity Chair, was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and is a history major in Morse College. Her interests include traveling, music, and skiing. She has been involved with YEU since its founding and has been a member of the Yale Glee Club since freshman year.

Secretary

Name: Hayeon Lee

Place of Origin: Paris, France

Hayeon Lee is a sophomore Environmental Engineering and Political Science double major in Ezra Stiles College. She has moved every three years of her life and most recently went to high school in Paris, France. Some of her favorite places in Europe are Monaco, Lucern, Florence, and Paris!

Freshman Liaison

Name: Kristina Tremonti

Place of Origin: Athens, Greece

Kristina Marie Tremonti is a freshman in Morse College and currently serves a position in the YEU board as Freshman Liaison. She is Greek - Italian and lived her entire life in Greece where she graduated from highschool. Other than her involvement with the YEU she is a Political Science major, plays for the Yale Varsity Fencing team and is part of the Hellenic Society and ISO.
