female plants and producing fleshy black berries.
LEAVES: Leathery; blunt tipped with a notch near the tip; usually toothless TWIGS: Finely gray-hairy; short stubby spur branches with crowed leaf scars BARK: Smooth HABITAT: Acid, sandy wetlands; coastal plains; peaty soils USES: The leaves can be used to make tea. Although it is common
in English gardens, it is not often cultivated here.
