Site 5 Description

Site Location: Bellow all logging activities in the surrounding watershed.

Description: This is an ephemeral stream (although it was always running vigorously during our ten weeks of spring observations). The channel is deeper entrenched at this point than any of the upstream sites.  The channel is running at around a 10 percent grade and is relatively straight.  The land surrounding the stream supports a “park like” vegetation -- thinned with little understudy and minimal ground cover or shrubs.

Cover:  The riparian cover is constant with the second or third growth  forest in the surrounding valley.  The area has been logged in the past and the riparian areas were not excluded from the logging.  The stream is probably shaded 70 percent of the time.

Channel characteristics: Channel is a an entrenched channel with a bedrock, boulder, and cobble mixed bed.

Reason Selected: We wanted to document the “final product” of the changes in land management practices on the water quality.
