Description: This is an ephemeral stream (although it was always running vigorously during our ten weeks of spring observations). This is an interesting site just below a bedrock formation. The stream comes out of the wetland onto the heavily used logging road. The water continues directly across the road spills down a bedrock formation. The water sheets across the bedrock then pools at the bottom and begins running in a channel again. Site seven is 150 meters laterally on the slope from Site 5 and ten meters below the second stream crossing of the logging road.
Cover: This site exposed to direct sunlight due to the logging that has cut the canopy as well as the natural position in the watershed. Additionally the surface bedrock has limited the soil depth and thus the canopy establishment. The sampling site is only covered 40% of the time.
Channel characteristics: The stream at this site is coming out of a small pool that was formed at the bottom edge of bedrock. The channel bottom is a mix of bedrock and large cobble.
Reason Selected: We wanted to monitor the impact of the logging road..
Unlike site 5 the stream does not pool at this road crossing but continues
rapidly sheeting across a bedrock formation at the edge of the road.
