Who We Are

Five is a perpetually evolving organization. Founded in 2004 by Maya Shankar and Christine Tsang, Five Magazine sought to be a herald for social justice and human rights groups on Yale University’s campus. Over the past three years, however, Five has grown past its collegiate roots to include the insight and ideas of activist leaders from a host of fields all over the world. In each issue, Five seeks to answer the question: Which tools and techniques of activism are the most effective in achieving substantial social progress? In the next few years, we anticipate the establishment of chapters at other universities around the nation and, with our newly revamped website, we plan to extend our reach even further. In a world of constant change, Five has adapted its approach to activism and social justice, staying true to its mission while still remaining relevant.
