Yale Diwali Pooja

Since 2005, HSC has organized the annual Yale Diwali Pooja, a prayer and dinner event to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.  The pooja (prayer) consists of meditation/prayer and singing of Hindu hymns and lasts about an hour.  All are invited to attend - Yale undergraduates, graduate/professional students, faculty, staff, family, friends, community members, and anyone else who's interested!

Saraswati Pooja

HSC holds a Saraswati Pooja at the end of each semester to kick off reading period before final exams. The pooja is a short program held in our prayer room in Bingham Hall on Old Campus.

Weekly Prayer/Discussion Meetings

Our weekly prayer/discussion meetings, while having a prayer component, are themed and address issues pertaining to Hinduism. The purpose of these seminars is primarily educational, and they are open to the public.  We wish to provide a forum for cultural and religious exchange and lively debate on the role of the Hindu religion in our lives.

Biweekly Study Breaks

In spring 2010, we introduced HSC study breaks. Held every other week in the Hindu Community Room, the study breaks provide a relaxed setting for students to enjoy Indian snacks like samosas, mithai (sweets), chai, and more, and informally interact with members of the Hindu community and anyone else who drops by.

Spring Kickoff Brunch

In spring 2009, HSC organized a kickoff brunch hosted at Zaroka Indian Restaurant.  The event, which was free (thanks to the Yale Chaplain's Office), brought together many members of the undergraduate and graduate Hindu student community who had not met each other earlier, and for many, this was the first HSC event they had attended.

Holi

In the spring, HSC co-sponsors a Holi event with the South Asian Society.
