My major research interest is the reaction of ordinary people to Japanese colonialism in Indonesia during World War II. I am also very interested in the history of both world wars and the spread of nationalism, especially in the context of colonial empires. Finally my interest extends to Indian and Southeast Asian resistance to these colonial empires in the face of oppression, exploitation and genocide.
