I am a joint degree student in law and history and am studying the intersection of civil rights legal and labor histories in the post New Deal era. I write about African-American workers and civil rights attorneys' efforts to bring the Constitution to bear on workplace discrimination. This year, I am finishing my coursework and preparing for my orals fields which include U.S. Social and Political History 1865-present; American Legal History; and Race, Labor, and the State: Comparative and Theoretical Perspectives. My other interests include the history of adolescence with a focus on gender, sexuality, and citizenship. My advisor is Glenda Gilmore and I also work with Jean-Christophe Agnew, Robert Gordon, and Reva Siegel.

I received my B.A. and an M.S.W. from U.C. Berkeley and returned to graduate school after doing social work with school-aged parents and working as a researcher. I have co-authored publications on welfare reform, child welfare policy, and alternatives to incarceration. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the program, being a joint degree student, or returning to graduate school after a working life.
