Required Knowledge:

  • General knowledge, high school level

Required Skills:

  • Copies data from standard or easily understandable formats.
  • Understands short notes, basic written instructions, and forms.
  • Writes short informal notes, fills out simple forms.
  • Occasional use of machines that require little training to operate.
  • Performs a few simple laboratory or scientific procedures; records results as necessary.

Office and Administrative Skills:

  • Refers callers and visitors to the appropriate individual.

Experience, Education and Formal Training:

  • Little or no work experience and a high school level education, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Complexity and Organization:

Salary: A

General Purpose:
Maintain and clean caging and equipment used for housing animals that are being used in biomedical research at the School of Medicine.

Essential Duties of Position:

  1. Clean animal cages and equipment.
  2. Feed, restrain and handle animals.
  3. Observe animals for signs of illness or stress.
  4. Report deviations in animal conditions.
  5. May maintain inventory of supplies.
  6. May prepare special foods.
  7. May maintain records and files.
  8. May assist in preparing animals for experimentation.
  9. Perform additional functions incidental to animal technology activities.

Education and Training:

  1. Little or no work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination or experience and education.
  2. Preferred: Eligibility and willingness to complete examination by AAALAS as a Lab Animal Technician; two years of work experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Good leadership skills.
  2. Attention to detail.
  3. Organizational and time management skills.
  4. Good problem solving skills.
  5. Good oral and written communications skills.
  6. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. of weight.
  7. Good manual dexterity.
  8. Offer is contingent upon successful health screening.
  9. Willingness to work overtime hours.

General purpose:
Provide support to the Yale Polo and Equestrian Center, caring for the horses involved in the polo and riding programs

Essential duties of position:

  1. Feed, restrain and handle animals.
  2. Clean animal stalls and equipment.
  3. Load and unload equipment/supplies.
  4. Observe animals for signs of illness or stress.
  5. Report deviations in animal conditions.
  6. Perform general barn maintenance.
  7. Perform additional functions incidental to animal technology activities.
  8. May prepare special foods.
  9. May administer medication under veterinary supervision. Maintain records of treatments.
  10. May maintain records and files.
  11. May receive and house new animals.
  12. May maintain inventory of supplies/equipment.
  13. May exercise horses.
  14. May operate tractor.

Experience and training:

  1. Little or no work experience and a high school level education or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  2. PREFERRED: Two years in the care and maintenance of horses.

Skills and abilities:
Previous experience handling or caring for horses.
