Fire Marshal DEPUTY FIRE INSPECTOR LG6 925

  1. Performs non-complex, less skilled assignments under the direction of the fire marshal, and/or fire inspectors or mechanics. Responds to emergencies and takes necessary emergency actions with the fire department and campus police.
  2. Assists inspectors with the inspection of university properties for compliance with fire codes and standards. Inspects lower risk occupancies independently as assigned by the fire marshal and/or fire inspectors.
  3. Conducts some lower level public educations, training classes, and fire drills and assists inspectors with more complex public education, training classes and fire drills.
  4. Assists fire marshal and/or inspectors in fire investigations. Conducts minor investigations independently, i.e., trash fires, dumpsters, minor electrical fires.
  5. Assists in the training of lower grade employees using various training methods.
  6. Assists mechanics with rudimentary fire protection tasks related to fire detection and suppression.
  7. Assists mechanics with installation and maintenance of single station detection.
  8. Assists inspectors and mechanics with drawing reviews for code compliance and assists with liaison to architects and engineers.
  9. Performs related duties as required or assigned within the job classification.
Experience: 1 year minimum experience as an active volunteer firefighter. Basic knowledge of fire prevention practices and some knowledge of sprinklers and fire alarms. Basic knowledge of personal computers.
Education: Associates degree in Fire Technology/Fire Science or equivalent education and experience to be determined by oral exam.
Other: Successful completion of an oral exam based on miscellaneous NFPA standards.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Must hold valid CT driver's license.
Physically capable of wearing a SCBA, carrying weights of up to 40 pounds, and walking for periods of time.
Must be willing to work rotating shifts and/or weekends.

Fire Marshal FIRE INSPECTOR LG11 921

  1. Performs assignments under limited supervision.
  2. Directs the work of employees under the direction of the supervisor.
  3. Under the direction of the supervisor, assumes general responsibility for the completion of assignments.
  4. Inspects University properties for compliance with fire codes and standards.
  5. Coordinates and consults with Construction Management and Architectural and Engineering Services and external architects, designers and contractors to ensure compliance with fire codes and standards in new construction, renovations and fire systems.
  6. Conducts public education, training classes and fire drills within the Yale community.
  7. Assists in the preparation of fire safety proposals and the design specifications for fire protection equipment.
  8. Assists in fire investigations.
  9. Trains lower labor grade employees using various training methods.
  10. Performs related duties as required or assigned within the job classification.
Experience: Two or more years experience in fire prevention or related field. Knowledge of alarms and sprinklers.
Education: Associate's degree in Fire Science or equivalent education and training.
Other: Successful completion of a written and oral exam based on NFPA 1031, Fire Inspector Level one.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Must hold valid CT driver's license.
Physically capable of carrying weights up to 40 pounds and walking for periods of time.

Fire Marshal FIRE CONTROLS MECHANIC LG11 940

  1. Diagnoses, tests, adjusts, services and maintains all types of fire equipment including: fire pumps, sprinklers, standpipes, deluge systems, tanks, fire alarms, emergency lights and lighting systems, exit signs, fire doors, smoke vents, fixed extinguishing systems and hydrants.
  2. Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  3. Performs minor repair and replacement on and/or installs assigned equipment.
  4. Under limited supervision performs assigned duties and assumes general responsibility for job completion.
  5. Directs and trains lower labor grade employees, under Supervisor's direction.
  6. Determines the manpower and material requirements and means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments. Recommends changes in equipment, material or procedures to increase efficiency.
  7. Identifies and secures materials, supplies and equipment.
  8. Crates and uncrates equipment.
  9. Uses hand tools and equipment of the trade.
  10. Observes safety standards and practices.
  11. Maintains clean work area and/or cleans up job site.
  12. Performs related duties as required or assigned within job classification under Supervisor's direction.
Experience:

Four or more years inspecting, testing, repairing, diagnosing and maintaining fire equipment, or related experience. A State of Connecticut L-6 or higher low voltage electrical license; license must allow for worker to perform inspection, testing, repair, diagnostics, and/or maintenance on fire alarm systems. Experience in fire sprinkler system maintenance and factory training on Siemens, Notifier, and FCI alarm systems preferred.

Education: Ability to read, write, follow written instructions.
Other: Must hold valid CT driver's license.
