  1. Cleans boilers and chillers inside and out, cleans sumps, drain pits, areaways, spaces, equipment and machinery in the power plants and distribution systems. Empties waste cans, paper and trash, clean floors, walls and equipment.
  2. Assists high labor grade employees in the maintenance of locker rooms and bathrooms and of all power plant and distribution systems equipment and machinery.
  3. Loads and unloads boxes, barrels, bags, crates or machinery.

Utilities POWER PLANT CONTROLS MECHANIC LG11 897

  1. Diagnoses, services, calibrates and repairs pneumatic, electric and electronic control systems associated with controls and automation of the power plants and building utilities metering systems using prints and schematics. Retrofits and installs local electrical and pneumatic control and instrumentation systems including wiring and tubing. Diagnoses the above systems-related problems locally or via the controls and automation system. Maintains and installs controls and automation systems hardware and field equipment.
  2. Reads, understands, uses and updates blueprints, drawings, schematics and procedures as outlined in service manuals with emphasis on instrument calibration procedures. Has working knowledge of systems being controlled. Uses application software and color graphics related to control and automation, problems and systems. Informs power plant system engineers of all problems and field changes.
  3. Determines the manpower and material requirements and the means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments and recommends changes.
  4. Maintains cleanliness of work areas.
  5. Uses tools and tests equipment of the trade.
  6. Maintains spare parts inventory and orders parts as required.
  7. Coordinates with Watch Engineer when locking and tagging plant systems.
  8. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
  9. Observes safety standards and practices.
  10. Observes and assists outside contractors for compliance with Yale standards.
  11. Trains new hires/transferees regarding proper maintenance and safety standards and practices.
Experience: Must have at least four (4) years of power plant controls mechanic and operating/maintenance experience and/or electronic technician with at least four (4) years experience with power plant controls and automation systems.
Education: Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a D2 license.

  1. Coordinates with the Watch Engineer in the operation and inspection of high pressure boilers, gas turbines, diesel generators, steam turbines, chillers, compressors, cooling towers, fuel systems, all related auxiliary systems and control systems.
  2. Maintains plant operation computer based records, interprets results, and initiates actions after notifying the watch engineer.
  3. Reads all gauges and meters, notifies the watch engineer when readings deviate from normal, and takes corrective measures.
  4. Coordinates with the watch engineer and starts or secures all major and auxiliary pieces of equipment, adjusts operating controls of the systems to achieve maximum operating efficiency while responding to changes in electric, steam and chilled water demands.
  5. Tests all water systems, interprets results, and determines the amount of treatment to be added to the water systems to maintain proper residuals. Insures the Watch Engineer is aware of any abnormal or unexpected chemistry conditions.
  6. Reads, understands, uses and updates technical manuals, shop drawings and blue prints.
  7. Uses small tools and instruments.
  8. Locks and tags plant systems as requested by the Watch Engineer.
  9. Selects proper lubricants and lubricates machinery as required.
  10. Performs minor maintenance and touch up painting, maintains clean work area.
  11. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
  12. Observes safety standards and practices.
  13. Trains new hires/transferees in all proper operations, safety standards and practices.
  14. Assists plant supervision in writing and editing plant operational procedures.

The Watch Engineer is in charge of the operation of the
power plant in the absence of the Chief Engineer.

  9. Able to select proper lubricants and lubricate machinery as required.
  10. Performs minor maintenance and touchup painting, maintains clean work area.

  13. Trains new hires/transferees in all proper operations, safety standards and practices.
  14. Edits and writes plant operational procedures as requested by the Chief Engineer.

Utlities UTILITIES ELECTRICIAN LG11 943

  1. Performs assignments under limited supervision
  2. Under the direction of the supervisor(s), assumes general responsibility for the completion of assignments
  3. Secures material supplies and equipment when authorized
  4. Performs installations, calibrations, preventive maintenance and repair of power plant and electrical distribution equipment. Including, but not limited to, panel boards, switchgear, variable frequency drives, relays, generators, excitation equipment, motors, protective devices, transformers, batteries, UPS systems and all other high voltage (480V – 13,800V) equipment
  5. Use test equipment, diagnostic and safety apparatus as appropriate to perform the essential duties as listed above
  6. Maintain and update as necessary, all electrical drawings and vendor manuals pertinent to the power plants.
  7. Work closely with Physical Plant High Voltage Electricians to ensure consistent and reliable electrical service to all campus customers
  8. Reads, understands, uses and updates blueprints, drawings, schematics and procedures as outlined in service manuals
  9. Determines the manpower and material requirements and the means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments and recommends changes

This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion.  Employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds.  Employees in this classification are subject to emergency call back procedures twenty-four hours a day, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility.

Experience: Must have at least four (4) years of high voltage electrical maintenance. Demonstrated qualifications and experience in operating/maintenance of high voltage equipment in a power generation or similar environment.
Education: Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a E2 unlimited journeyman electrical license for the State of CT.
Other: Must hold valid driver’s license.
