Getting Started at HTCB
The various core technologies offered by the Yale HTCB can be combined in whatever way is required to achieve your goals. Some users have needs for siRNA screening and for such projects many HTCB services and resources are efficiently bundled and focused for particular needs (click here for a description of a prototypical screening project). Others have very specific needs, for example, the use of a confocal microscope. Each project brings a unique set of requirements and we routinely customize our services in a flexible way that cost-effectively fits client needs and expectations. When possible, it is useful for potential customers to visit and briefly tour the Center. Together we can develop an overall project scope and estimate costs.
Some of our core services include:
SiRNA transfections
SiRNA screening using libraries targeting the human genome
High throughput screening (HTS) and HTS liquid handling
Confocal microscopy
High content screening
Bioinformatics and screening informatics
Assay development
Gene, target, and/or compound profiling
HTCB Service levels

Projects can (and do!) range from hourly equipment use to full-scale assay development and screening campaigns. We are happy to accomodate any scale of project. We offer full-service, partial-service, and for some resources, self-service models. We will work with you to find the right balance of support and costs.
Full Service:
HTCB Center clients can have HTCB provide all services. We will meet with you, agree upon scope, and estimate costs. HTCB scientists will perform all wet lab experiments, screening and equipment use, and informatics processing. Critical decisions are made in consultation with our collaborators and we conduct frequent meetings to keep all stakeholders apprised of progress, challenges, and critical decision points. Center fees are charged for project milestones attained.
Partial-service:
Center users can save some money, and gain valuable experience if they instead choose to work closely with our scientists on their projects. Under this model, our clients perform some work themselves. For example, often users will setup basic assay development experiments and bring plates to the Center for imaging and analysis. HTCB fees are charged for consultations and/or instrument time.
Self-service:
Center resources are also available for independent use. Trained users can schedule time on various instruments and use them. Some of our instruments require HTCB attendees, specifically, the Opera and the Tecan liquid handlers. Other equipment can be run by clients themselves following brief training sessions.
We operate on a cost-recovery model, and fees are charged primarily to help cover costs associated with equipment service contracts and labor. Reagents and supplies required for the execution of projects at HTCB are the responsibility of the client. HTCB enjoys discounts on certain reagents and supplies, for example, microwell plates, fluorescent antibodies, and siRNA reagents. We pass along all discounts to our clients.
