Returning to Yale

1. What do I need to do now that my program has finished?

Everything you need to know is in the Returning Fellows section.

2. Do I need to take a placement exam?

Please see our post on placement examinations.

3.Where can I find information about classes, activities, opportunities, and contacts at Yale?

Try IplanYale, an online resource for East Asia opportunities. It is chock full of good stuff, from classes to extracurricular groups to fellowships.

4. How do I become involved in the Light Fellowship Student Advisory Committee (SAC)?

The Light Fellowship holds interviews in the fall and will contact Fellows about how to apply!

5. I'm interested in ways to continue practicing my language?

The Office of International Students & Scholars has a Conversation Partners program. Request a Chinese, Japanese, or Korean speaker to help with English and also enjoy conversations with them in their native language.

6. Should I write a thank you note to my recommender?

Yes! You may also want to write a note upon your return to give an update on your plans and experiences. Consider that this person may be a useful resource for future recommendation letters. Snail mail cards and letters are nicer than emails.

7. What is the best way to contact the Light Fellowship?

If you have a question, always start by checking our FAQ and online Bulletin Board. If you’re still stuck, email light.fellowship@yale.edu. You may also call the Light Fellowship office at (203) 432-8675. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please use the online appointment system.
