Converting Word to HTML

Using Microsoft Word version 97, 98 or 2000, open the file you want to convert.

From the File Menu

on Windows choose "Save as Web Page" and click "Save". The file type will be Web Page and the file name will be, for example, hist121a_syl. Click "Save" and you'll have an HTML file named hist121a_syl.

on Mac choose "Save as HTML " and be sure to add .html after the file name, e.g. hist121a_syl.html

Note: You cannot upload a file with a space or any of the following characters in its name: & # \ / : * ? " ' < > |. Word often provides a filename that may have spaces or special characters in it. Please type a filename without spaces.

Be sure to remember where you are saving the file on your computer so you can find it again. If this is part of your website, save it in the folder where your other web files are located. More information on File Names and Organization.
