Information on Updating your Syllabus

After you've posted your syllabus the following checklist will help you fine tune and maintain the page:

Login as a student to see what your students are viewing.

Update your syllabus by making changes to the original Microsoft Word document and save the changes. Then Save As Web Page and upload as you did before. Voila! Students will see the updated syllabus immediately.

NOTE: The "Edit" option (on the left of the screen) gives you access to the HTML code as well as allowing you to move, rename, download, and delete files. Editing the html is recommended only for experienced users who want to make a small change to the page. More info on the "Edit" feature.

Alert the students to a change by sending email to the class.

If you create and upload another version of your syllabus be sure to delete the original index.html first so that there is ONLY ONE file called index.anything.

In Netscape Communicator: To view changes that you have uploaded you need to refresh the screen by clicking Reload. If you still don't see any change, go to the Edit Menu (in Netscape) choose Preferences, scroll down to Advanced, and choose Cache. In the area that displays Compare page in cache to page on Network check the button that says "Every Time". This means that every time you add something to your page and upload it, you'll see the changes right away. Internet Explorer does not require reloading of the site to view changes.

Note: after you've finished your web development session, you should probably check the "once a session" button in the "Compare page in cache to page on Network" option described above. Download the latest browser versions for Windows/Mac/Linux.
