How to Apply

Applying to the summer seminar is a two-step process. From the first round of applications received, a small number of congregations will be invited to submit a more detailed application for the second round.

 

For the first round, applications are made online and will be open until October 15, 2012.

Round One Application Materials:

Congregational profile


Mission Statement for congregation

Demographic makeup of congregation

Staff configuration (full and part-time)
Schedule and types of weekly worship services

Description of music and arts program
Brief description of location and neighborhood context

 

Leadership team description (please attach CV’s)

Clergyperson's name & position in church
Musician's name & position in church
Lay leader's name & position in church

Project proposal

Title
Brief description (no more than 300 words)


All applications are reviewed by members of the summer seminar faculty and staff. Congregations will be notified of their status no later than November 1, 2011, at which time the invitations will be made to select congregations to apply in Round Two.

 

Round Two Application Materials:

Detailed Project Proposal

Title and abstract (as for Round One)

Description of the project and how it would be accomplished (no more than 1400 words)

Four References who can attest to

The strength of the congregation

Its role in its city or town

The viability of the proposed project

The four referees should include
  1. A church member not on the team;
  2. A staff member of a neighboring church (preferably one involved in the project);
  3. A staff member of a neighboring church (preferably one involved in the project);
  4. A member of the regional or national church office (presbytery, diocese, synod, etc.). Lacking such person, a reference may be solicited from someone competent to assess the congregation’s strengths and compare it to other congregations.

Congregations invited to apply to Round Two will have until December 15, 2011 to complete the application, and will be notified of their status by February 1, 2012.
