GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS
Graduate students at Yale in the fields of international, diplomatic, political, and military history, and strategic studies who seek support for summer or year-long archival research or for summer language training should apply for a Smith Richardson Fellowship.

Graduate students pursuing research projects or uncompensated internships related to the historical study or contemporary practice of grand strategies, and who are currently enrolled in “Studies in Grand Strategy,” should apply for a fellowship from the John M. Olin Foundation or the George Frederick Jewett Foundation.


UNDERGRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS

Yale undergraduates pursuing research projects or uncompensated internships related to the historical study or contemporary practice of grand strategies who are currently enrolled in, or who have been enrolled in, “Studies in Grand Strategy” or another Grand Strategy Project course, should apply for a fellowship from the John M. Olin Foundation, or the George Frederick Jewett Foundation.  

Junior History majors seeking support for research on a senior essay in international studies should apply to the Travel Fellowship in Honor of Professor Robin W. Winks.

PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
ISS will be awarding one or more Pre-doctoral fellowships for the academic year 2010-2011. These fellowships are only open to non-Yale Ph.D. students who have completed all the requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation, and who want to take advantage of the resources at Yale and ISS to finish during the course of the fellowship year.  More information will be available in the next few weeks.


POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
ISS will award two Henry Chauncey Postdoctoral Fellowships in Military History and Strategic Studies for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Henry Chauncey Jr. '57 Postdoctoral Fellowships in Grand Strategy at Yale University
The Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy at Yale University, which operates under the auspices of International Security Studies at Yale (ISS), will award one or more Henry Chauncey Jr. '57 Postdoctoral Fellowships beginning in the fall semester of 2010. These fellowships will have a term of one academic year. By mutual agreement of the Fellow and the Program, the Fellowship may be renewable for a second year.

These fellowships will provide opportunities for research and teaching in the field of ?grand strategy? broadly defined. Fellows must be in residence at Yale, and must have successfully defended their doctoral dissertation by September 1, 2010. The Program welcomes applications from both mid-career and junior scholars. Scholars who have previously held an ISS fellowship are eligible to apply.

Fellows will be expected to conduct their own research and to teach at least one course on a subject relevant to grand strategy during each year in which they hold the fellowship. The stipend will be at least $50,000. The fellowship will provide shared office space and access to Yale facilities as well as membership in the Yale Health Plan.

Please submit vita, a research proposal (describing how the fellowship will be used), transcripts, a short (ca. 50 page) writing sample, and three letters of reference to Susan Hennigan, Administrator, International Security Studies, Yale University, P.O. Box 208353, New Haven, CT 06520-8353. The deadline is March 31, 2010. Finalists may be asked to visit Yale for an on-campus interview, or to participate in a telephone interview. Applying For ISS Fellowships
In addition to their specific application forms, applicants should be aware of the following further requirements: In order to receive their award, successful applicants must:

1. Sign and submit to Ms. Murphy an "Assumption of Risk" form;
2. Submit to Ms. Murphy a photocopy of their MEDEX Identification Card; and
3. Follow the procedures set out here for travel to a restricted country.
