- How do I?
- Reduce the Size of my Inbox
How do I reduce the amount of email I am using on the server?
- Keep your Inbox as small as possible by moving messages to another folder.
- Regularly delete or move messages in your Sent or Outbox folder
- If you filter spam to the Tagged-Spam folder but do not automatically delete it, frequently review and delete the messages in that folder.
Why should I reduce the size of my inbox?
Each time your email client checks or sends email, you are interacting with the server. If your Inbox is large, each message must be checked by the server and your client. This interaction between the server and your client can be very slow when your inbox is large. It is a good idea to keep your inbox small and store your less recent messages in other folders.
POP or IMAP: It is important to understand how you have your email configured
You must also understand where your email is being kept, on the email server (IMAP), or stored on your local computer (POP).
This is a guideline, if you are still unsure where your email is, contact your support provider before moving your mail.
*Note* When moving your email to your local computer, you may want to consider backing up the data.
Where can I see how much space I am using on the server?
