Import email into Thunderbird

Make sure Thunderbird is installed and configured. You may install the latest version from the ITS Software Library.

Locate the archive you downloaded from the Email Archiver Tool.

Double click to open the file. You may be asked to unzip the file: agree to this and unzip the contents of the file to your desktop. This should include a folder called "yournetid-email.sbd"

Double click to open the new folder entitled "yournetid-email.sbd" Leave this folder window open on your desktop while you complete the next step.

Navigate to the folder in your profile where Thunderbird expects to find local mail files
• Double click My Computer
• Double click on the C: drive
• Double click on the Documents and Settings folder
• Double click on the folder with the name same as your Yale NetID
• Double click on the Application Data folder
• Double click on the Thunderbird folder
• Double click on the Profiles folder
• Doubleclick on the randomtext.default folder (folder named with randomtext string)
• Double click on the Mail folder
• Double click on the Local Mail folder -
Drag the mail folders from within the "yournetid-email.sbd" folder into the opened Local Mail folder.

Close folders and open Thunderbird normally. Your archived mail should appear in the lefthand panel under Local Mail ready to access.
