Remote or manually wipe all data on device for clients who DO NOT use YaleConnect

NOTE: Unless you have previously installed the Find my iPhone app, you should contact your wireless service provider to suspend service so you aren’t responsible for phone calls or other charges.

For iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Find My iPhone app installed

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen, you can remotely erase (or “wipe”) the information on it to prevent anyone else from seeing or using your personal information. To use remote wipe, you need to have first turned on Find My iPhone on your device.

If you erase your device and then find it, you can restore your information by connecting the device to your computer and restoring it from a previous backup using iTunes. For help restoring your information, visit the MobileMe Support website.

Important:  Before you erase all the information on your device, try to find it by locating it on the Find My iPhone map and sending it a message. After you erase all the information on your device, you won’t be able to use Find My iPhone to locate it or send it a message.

To erase the information on your lost iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Go to me.com/find and sign in using your Apple ID email address and password.

If you’re a paid subscriber, your Apple ID is your MobileMe email address (@me.com or @mac.com) and password. If you’re already signed in to a different application on me.com, switch to Find My iPhone.

If you set up Find My iPhone on more than one device, click the device you want to erase in the Devices list on the left.

A green dot to the left of your device name means it’s online; a red dot means it’s offline; and a grey dot means Find My iPhone is trying to connect to the device.
Note:  If you set up Find My iPhone on only one device, the Devices list doesn’t show.

  1. On the map, click the blue arrow to the right of your device’s name (or, if the device hasn’t been located recently, the red clock ).

  1. In the device window, click Wipe, and then read the warning message that appears.

  1. If you’re sure you want to proceed, click Erase All Data.

If the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is online, the remote wipe begins within seconds. If the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is offline, the information will be erased the next time the device is online.

After the remote wipe has begun, a confirmation email is sent to your MobileMe email address (if you’re a subscriber) or to the primary email for your Apple ID (if you have a free user account).

Note:  If you don’t expect to find your iPhone or iPad Wi-Fi + 3G, you should contact your wireless service provider to suspend service so you aren’t responsible for phone calls or other charges.

BlackBerry Protect for personally owned devices

Personally owned Blackberry can be managed and protected from theft or loss with Blackberry Protect.  You cannot use BlackBerry Protect on a Yale provided device that is configured to work with YaleConnect.

BlackBerry Protect provides a convenient way to wirelessly back up and restore BlackBerry device data as well as features to help you find your device and help protect your device's data if your device is ever lost or stolen.

BlackBerry Protect can restore data to the same device or to a different device (for example, when you need to replace a lost device with a new one).

If your device is lost, you can use the BlackBerry Protect web site to help you find your device by viewing its current location, making it ring, or displaying a custom message on the device Home screen. If your device is stolen, you can also remotely lock your device, change your device password, or delete all data from your device.

You can manage up to five BlackBerry devices from your BlackBerry Protect account.
Set up: https://protect.blackberry.com/protect/help/en/index.html

You will need to set up a Blackberry ID to use this service.

About the BlackBerry ID

A BlackBerry® ID gives you convenient access to multiple BlackBerry products, including BlackBerry® Protect and the BlackBerry App World™ storefront. After you create a BlackBerry ID, you can use a single email address and password to log in to any BlackBerry product that supports BlackBerry ID.

You can create a BlackBerry ID from the BlackBerry Protect web site, the BlackBerry Protect application on your BlackBerry device, or BlackBerry App World.

You can use any email address for your BlackBerry ID; you do not have to use an email address that you have added to your device. If you have a user name and password that you use to manage email addresses on your device, that user name is separate from your BlackBerry ID.

Set up BlackBerry Protect
To use BlackBerry® Protect, you might need to install the BlackBerry Protect application on your BlackBerry device. The application is available through the BlackBerry App World™ storefront.

  1. On the Home screen or in the Downloads folder, click the BlackBerry Protect icon.
  2. To accept the terms of the license agreement, click I Agree.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Type your BlackBerry® ID login information.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Complete the instructions on the screen.
