Accessing Library Resources From Off Campus using the Yale Proxy
If you need further assistance, please request help from a Student Tech.
If you are using an off-campus computer, you can still access restricted library resources such as online journals or databases using the Yale proxy server. Follow the steps below to configure the proxy server to work with your web browser.
Note: We recommend that you configure a second web browser for proxy access. If you configure your main web browser for proxy access, you will be prompted to login to the Yale Central Authentication System each time you open a new window. For example, use Firefox as your main browser, and configure Internet Explorer as your proxy browser.
- Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools and then Internet Options.
-
Under the Connections tab, go to LAN Settings...
-
Place a check mark next to Use automatic configuration script. In the Address field, enter http://copy.its.yale.edu:8080. Uncheck the box for Automatically detect settings.

Once you're finished, click OK in the LAN Settings and Internet Options windows.
-
Exit Internet Explorer and open a new Internet Explorer browswer window and you will are prompted to login to Yale Central Authentication. Once you have logged in, you can access restricted resources.
-
Close all programs. Make sure you have exited out of Safari.
- On the Apple menu click System Preferences...
-
Select the Network icon.
-
From the Show menu, select the network connection that you would like to configure for proxy access, i.e. Built-in Ethernet or Airport.
-
Select the Proxies tab.
-
Under Select a proxy to configure, select Automatic Proxy Configuration and select the checkbox.
-
In the Proxy Configuration File URL field, enter http://copy.its.yale.edu:8080.
-
Click Apply Now. Your computer is now ready to access Yale's resources through a proxy.
