Mailman is a powerful list management tool that provides easy communication among members of a group. They are maintained by the list administrators through a simple web interface. Mailman lists have addresses in the form listname@mailman.yale.edu.

Mailman users must agree and adhere to the stated policies.

Information about the list


First, you have to choose a name for your list. List names may contain only lowercase letters, numbers, and limited punctuation (period, hyphen, underscore). It is also possible to select a list name that currently exists as listname@panlists.yale.edu. All of the following are examples of valid list names: frisbee, legal-list, hist.240b, yale.misc_group.

Moderated list - any message sent to the list should be approved by an administrator or moderator.

List members only - any list member may send messages to the list. Messages from all other senders must be approved by an administrator or moderator.
