Information for MD, Physicians Associate, Nursing, & Yale School of Medicine Graduate Students

All students in the Medical Center are provided with computing accounts for email and online library resources. For students who have their own computers, all of the rooms in Harkness Dormitory are connected to the campus network.

Because students and trainees are expected to use personally owned computers for educational purposes and are associated with Yale for shorter periods than most faculty and staff, they may use their own computers to store, access and transmit ePHI, so long as (1) their computers are managed to meet and maintain the standards of an encrypted Yale Managed Workstation; (2) they log-in to Yale systems via a Virtual Private Network; and (3) all ePHI that is not needed for continuing work is removed before the student or trainee leaves Yale.

For official administrative & academic communications

All of the Schools in the Medical Center maintain official lists of email addresses of students, usually by graduating class. A message sent to the email address of a list goes to all students on the list. These lists are for official administrative and academic communications between the Office of the Dean of Students or its equivalent (who owns and monitors the list), teaching faculty, and all student. Because the lists are for official communications, all students have been put on the lists and communications are restricted - posting only by authorized addresses.
