modprobe and kernel 2.2.5

I just recompiled kernel 2.2.5 and added Natural Language support. It
seems that modprobe cant find somethings. I tried to check
/etc/conf.modules but I could not geht smart out of it. I dont really
find the place where it looks for module char-major-4.
