Can I change the controlling term of a job? For example, if I started a
job in one xterm, can I transfer the control to another xterm?
Sometimes, I leave a job in the background when I close the controlling
xterm, and then when I want to suspend the job or to put it in the
foreground somewhere else, I can't. Or can I?
My guess is that the ability to suspend jobs is a part of the shell (like
bash and tcsh) and its control over its children processes, therefore once
the shell is closed, you can't get access to its child processes.
Anybody with a better understanding of this, please enlighten me!
