true, I could do that, but wouldn't dhcpcd just overwrite my good
resolv.conf with a symlink again eventually, much like it did my original
one?

why would the io parameter in my conf.modules effect insmod, when Stefan
just said that insmod doesn't use conf.modules? Or are you suggesting
that the param is messing something else up?
