The mail relays have been performing slowly recently - at least some mail
is getting delayed. The working theory is that it's due simply to high
loads, and we'll be adding a fourth mail relay soon to take the burden off
the three existing servers.
(Stuff like undeliverable mail and mail queued because of locked inboxes
can contribute to the load. A system programmer at ACS told me today
about the day when the entire Paraguay domain - I think! - went down for a
while, making all mail there bounce and continue to be retried. You kind
of wonder how all of Paraguay had less redudancy than is required for
EVERY site in com, net, and org - that is, no single point of DNS failure
- but whatever...)
