So after troubling over installing downloaded RPMs, I just decided to get
the LinuxPPC CD. However, I am missing some crucial file and get the
error message:

/etc/X11/prefdm: error loading shared library: libesd.so.0: cannot be
opened or file cannot be found.

This message repeats in rapid succession as soon as I started up, then
says it has been generated too many times and will try again in 5 minutes.
Which it does and loads my screen with the message again. So I can
actually login, but few things work. For instance, telnet doesn't, but
ssh does. Telnet complains about libncurses, which I'm guesing is related
to libesd.so.0.

Any thoughts?
