In *theory* (only), you don't need a driver for the DSL modem.
According to what I read, the implementation is to have a client
program running in the background, receiving the packets from the
ethernet card according to a pppoE protocol, transforming them
into ppp protocol and then sending it to pppd and that's why
you need to run pppd too. It should also be similar in other OSes.
The installation is pretty simple too. You just need to make an
option file and putting your password informations for the pppd.
But of course, the big assumption is SNET is following the standard
pppoE protocol...
