that sounds like WindowMaker with 'superfluous animations' turned on. do
you have a dock of icons, one of which is a clock, running down the
right-hand side of the screen? if so, it's WindowMaker, which is just one of
MANY window managers for X Windows (see http://www.plig.org/xwinman).
WindowMaker is *loosely* based on the proprietary GUI interface of
NextStep/OpenStep (see http://people.ne.mediaone.net/jkheit/index.html).
The dock is to keep a few often-used programs. When you run a program, it
creates an icon on the bottom of the screen. You can drag that icon to the
dock. In your case, to get back the wordperfect icon to the dock, open a
terminal window, run 'xwp' (assuming it's in your path), and just drag the
icon to the dock.
> Second, how do you add icons to desktop? Thanks,
WindowMaker by default has no desktop (neither did NeXT). You'll probably
want to install KDE or GNOME (okay, at this point, probably KDE). Pick a
mirror from www.kde.org, and you should be able to download precompiled
binaries packaged for your platform.
