I just realized that my message didn't make much sense. If it confused
anybody, sorry. What I was saying is that I cut my one ethernet cord and
combined the 4 wires in the following fashion:

orange wires spliced to blue wires (2 & 6)
white wires spliced to white-striped wires (1 & 3)

And it's working fine, even if it does look pretty ugly.
