For local connections, use xhost to setup X security. I set mine up a while
ago and don't really remember how I did it, but a temporary, sloppy solution
would be to type 'xhost +' on a local terminal before making the X
connection from the other user or from pantheon, then type 'xhost -' after
it has connected. ("xhost +" allows all X clients to connection to your
local server, which is why this is sloppy)
good luck,

p.s. another nice thing about SSH is that you can put a public key in a file
on your pantheon account and keep the other key locally so that SSH will let
you connect securely to pantheon without entering your passwd. This makes
it easy to automate things, e.g. when I was still using TriTeal CDE, I set
up desktop icons to automatically login to pantheon and launch a dtmail.
